Holy sh*t did these guys actually get it.

An awesome match that was actually germane to the context of brand superiority, it was worked like human beings, and not barely sentient t-shirts, were involved in it.

Instead of adhering to the established dynamic, the New Day owned their veteran storyline superiority and realised it with a heelish performance. There was a flexing competitive theme to this match that belonged on the Survivor Series stage. This was the ideal Survivor Series match. Where even the best matches work in spite of the gimmick, or don't really need it, this banger cultivated the tone tremendously.

Kofi Kingston was great value reducing Montez Ford to a gimmick on the apron, and the story of the match maximised what Ford excels at in all too rare accentuate-the-positives booking masterclass. He out-jumped Kofi - Kofi! - in a blistering pissing contest of a sequence. Ford pissed the farthest when he delivered Trouble In Paradise to Kofi in a well-earned power absorption spot.

The match built magnificently to the hot tag - Xavier Woods entered such an accomplished connective performance - and if it had one flaw, it's that Ford and Angelo Dawkins really need to refine or outright retire an element of their double team comeback. That twirl into the corner strike thing just looks plain odd and barely effective.

Still, this was great - precisely the sort of breakout match that instils hope that such lessons will be learned by an act on the rise.
