7 Most Insane Things Happening In Wrestling Right Now (March 31)
1. WWE: Bringing Hypocrisy To The Table
On the latest edition of the Bring It To The Table WWE Network programme, a very bizarre exercise in defensive spin in and of itself, JBL went off on one. Again. Roman Reigns was one of many subjects for discussion on the programme, and he gets JBL hot!
"For all these internet fans out there that wanna hate Roman Reigns: I'm hot at all these little crybabies out there who are goin' "no no no, we just stand up and boo him because we don't like him." Really."
Cheap Heat podcast co-host Peter Rosenberg, brought to the table (sorry) to apparently offer an unbiased take, echoed JBL's spin doctor sentiments. "You guys - my fellow WWE fans - YOU chose Roman Reigns! Not Seth Rollins, not Dean Ambrose, it was Roman Reigns. We all collectively said "That's the guy." As soon as the WWE said "you're right, that's the guy," we all said "no - you shouldn't think he's the guy!"
Bullsh*t.
WWE didn't agree that Reigns was the guy. They told us he was the guy. He was well-liked within the Shield, but he was pegged as the guy by fans not out of desire but by deduction. Everybody knew, from his look to his positioning as destroyer, that he was the man WWE were going to push in the aftermath. Rollins was the worker. Ambrose was the talker. Reigns was the sports entertainer. Which of these three roles, for so-called smart fans, is not like the other?
Those "internet fans" are famously loathed by the company - the same company which also touts its social media presence with eye-rolling frequency. The same company that uses social media iconography in a star wipe used on the same programme on which it buried fans who like to go on the internet. As if the internet itself isn't more popular than television.
More insanely still, JBL revealed on the same show that he will be calling Roman Reigns Vs. The Undertaker with Michael Cole, as if he's Jim Ross and his authority needs parachuting in to lend it the requisite gravitas.
