Finally a new entry to join the Mt. Rushmore of backstage politicians. This time, it’s none other than Big Match John. Remember the original NXT? That weird, wacky reality show thing? As strange and ultimately doomed as it was, the whole thing felt worth it when we were treated to one of the most spectacular debuts in WWE history. Every participant along with the winner, Wade Barrett, made their way to the ring while a CM Punk vs John Cena match was in progress. The carnage that ensued was unlike any we had seen before.

In the coming weeks, the Nexus steamrolled its way through the entire roster. No one could stand in their way. One of their primary targets during the onslaught was Cena himself. As the face of the company, destroying him would mean ultimate triumph for the faction. Initially, it was going perfectly. Cena was decimated on multiple occasions and no one seemed willing to help him.

That is until, he managed to rally his allies and foes alike. Presenting this as a battle to save the WWE, despite the Nexus being their own employees technically, Cena recruited Edge, Jericho, John Morrison, the Great Khali, R Truth and Bret Hart of all people for taking on the invaders. It was all set to go down at Summerslam that year, with Cena and friends would be taking on all seven of the Nexus.

The match booked itself. On one side you have seven up and comers who you want to establish as big stars. What better way to do that than let them defeat your current biggest stars. For a good while that actually seemed to be the plan. However it all changed when Mr. Hustle Loyalty and Respect decided he was not too big on losing. He then exerted his backstage influence and before long, the outcome was reversed.

Even the likes of Edge and Y2J later indicated this was the wrong choice but alas that is what we got. The Nexus lost and it was the beginning of their end at the hands of the Face that Runs the Place.

After battling Galactus and pinning Hulk Hogan in the main event of Wrestlemania, I've taken a break from living in fantasy worlds, to focus on writing about them. I'm a comic book geek, a wrestling mark, a break dancer, and a scientist. One of those things may not be true.
