7 Must-See Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan WWE Moments

3. TV Antics

While Bobby Heenan is fondly remembered for his storied managerial career, you have to give him just as much credit for his second career in the broadcast booth.

Heenan’s work as a “broadcast journalist” set the bar for color commentators, deriding fans (“humanoids”), jobbers (“ham-and-eggers”) and babyfaces at will. His work with real-life friend Gorilla Monsoon on Wrestling Challenge and Prime Time Wrestling was at times unscripted but also often hilarious. Their banter turned a series of squash matches into entertaining programming. And that’s no small task.

When Monday Night Raw started in 1993, Heenan was a natural fit to help the fledgling show get off the ground. He let his comic side hang out even more, with his departure from the WWF being a gag as well, with Monsoon literally throwing him out of the building.

Scott is a former journalist and longtime wrestling fan who was smart enough to abandon WCW during the Monday Night Wars the same time as the Radicalz. He fondly remembers watching WrestleMania III, IV, V and VI and Saturday Night's Main Event, came back to wrestling during the Attitude Era, and has been a consumer of sports entertainment since then. He's written for WhatCulture for more than a decade, establishing the Ups and Downs articles for WWE Raw and WWE PPVs/PLEs and composing pieces on a variety of topics.
