7 Must-See Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan WWE Moments

1. Royal Rumble

There can be little to no doubt what Bobby Heenan’s best moment (at least on the microphone) was.

While many refer to the 1992 Royal Rumble as a crowning achievement in Ric Flair’s career, it also was Heenan’s finest moment. The WWF World Heavyweight Championship had been vacated and was up for grabs in the Royal Rumble that year, giving all 30 men a shot at the title. Flair entered at #3, and Heenan – on commentary – lost his mind.

For the next hour, The Brain repeatedly freaked out over Flair’s predicament, as wrestlers kept entering the match and attacking Nature Boy. That led Heenan to repeated declare that it wasn’t “fair to Flair” and bargain with God to let him win.

Flair would go on to win the match and the title, but a major assist had to be given to Heenan, whose commentary turned what was the best Rumble in history into a legendary bout. His work on commentary was perfect.

If nothing else, the ’92 Rumble showed just how invaluable Heenan was, as he was not at ringside or on camera, and yet he was an integral part of the success of that match.

That really sums up Bobby Heenan’s impact on professional wrestling. There simply was no one like him before, and there won’t be another like him again.
