7 New Directions For WWE After Saturday Night's Main Event (24 Jan)

2. Sami Zayn Winning The Belt

This is the first option for WWE’s writers.

Sami becoming number one contender in Montreal then winning the WWE Title in Saudi Arabia at the Rumble would be one heck of a week for the guy. It probably won’t work out that way, because they can ride this story all the way to WrestleMania 42, but it's all food for thought anyway. Zayn is building serious steam. Again.

It's somewhat interesting that Sami pinned Damian Priest to win the Fatal-4-Way on Saturday. That made sense though - Priest always felt like he was only in there to take the fall so neither Randy Orton nor main roster newcomer Trick Williams had to. If WWE handle this properly, then Zayn bagging the title and celebrating with his son in-ring at ‘Mania could be colossal.

After that, the biggest thing they'd need to look out for is what happens next once Zayn wins the belt, if he wins the belt. He’ll need some cracking challengers/storylines to work with, and nobody wants this to become one of those ‘we got what we wanted and now we don’t care’ situations with the fanbase.

Talk about a nightmare for 2026, that'd be brutal on Sami and he doesn't deserve to be cherished then instantly thrown away like some unwanted toy. Over to you, creative team. You either book Zayn to go all the way against Drew and realise his dreams, or you give him a Cody at 'Mania 39-esque speed bump that threatens to destroy his confidence for good.

Drew's character would love that.
