7 New Directions For WWE After Saturday Night's Main Event (24 Jan)
1. Or Drew McIntyre Breaking His Heart
Welcome to the the second option, and the most realistic one considering Drew just won the top prize from Cody Rhodes after his own lengthy journey to the gold. Whipping the rug out from underneath McIntyre so soon after becoming champ could be considered cruel, and it might actually backfire on WWE if they’re not careful.
He's been getting some big time babyface reactions despite being heel.
Most fans would go with McIntyre retaining at the Rumble, then both he and Sami Zayn building up to a rematch at ‘Mania. Drew has too much coming at him vs. Cody and Jacob Fatu, so taking the strap off him right now would feel too sudden and like a wasted opportunity. That doesn't mean Triple H will shun the idea completely though.
Drew has made a point of expressing just how much he enjoys shattering Zayn's hopes and ambitions on TV. They have history, and it isn't favourable for Sami. Keeping back his elusive win over McIntyre until the grandest stage of the entire year could well be smart, because it'd mean more at 'Mania than it would at the Rumble.
Ultimately, it's Hunter who will decide here. Does he stick with Drew or go with Sami and make that McIntyre vs. Rhodes vs. Fatu Triple Threat non-title? We'll find out next weekend.
