7 New WWE Directions After No Mercy 2016

3. Dean Ambrose Taking A Step Towards Turning Heel

In retrospect, it would have been nice to see WWE hold off on any World Title reign for Dean Ambrose until he had turned heel. As popular as he is, Ambrose was too often booked to be a wacky comedian during his WWE Title tenure, stripping him off the 'Lunatic' portion of his 'Lunatic Fringe' nickname.

Losing the belt to AJ Styles at Backlash, Ambrose was only on top of the mountain for 84 days before dropping the strap. That few month period was hardly enough to establish him as a sustained force with the title. Now, it may be time for Ambrose to take a step back and rethink where he's going.

Looking thoroughly miserable after his Triple Threat opportunity at No Mercy, Ambrose could now be poised to turn heel. Again, should he do so he'd be a stirring choice to oppose Dolph Ziggler somewhere down the line.

At the same time, much of Dean's anger before No Mercy was directed at John Cena. Should Cena capture that elusive 16th World Title sometime soon, a heel Ambrose would be a great foe.
