7 Options To End Brock Lesnar's WWE Universal Championship Reign

1. Demon Finn Bálor

Finn Bálor is yet to reach the heights of his incredible introduction to the WWE main roster, but it isn’t for a lack of trying. The Irishman spent much of 2017 stuck in an absolutely miserable feud with Bray Wyatt, before treading water ahead of a 2018 doing battle with Seth Rollins and The Miz. Bálor has had plenty of decent matches, but nothing hugely memorable since his injury at SummerSlam 2016.

In his 18 months on the main roster, Bálor has only wrestled with his Demon persona twice. There was a chance that the Demon was going to have to come out again to face Bray in drag, but the mumps intervened and everyone moved on. The Demon hasn’t been since, not even at WrestleMania 34. What is Bálor waiting for?

WWE isn’t known for its low-key storytelling, but Bálor may well be keeping the Demon energised and in waiting ahead of an eventual match with Lesnar. Rather than spam the facepaint and gimmick at every big opportunity, it should be kept for the most special of occasions and be nigh on unbeatable along the way. Do occasions come much bigger than a match against the greatest combat athlete of a generation and a chance to win back the title he never lost?

Brock Lesnar dropping the WWE Universal Championship to Demon Finn Bálor would not only reinvigorate the Demon persona, it would also do wonders for Bálor’s career. After being held hostage by Lesnar for well over a year, the WWE’s flagship show would also have a champion worth paying attention to and a bevy of fresh challengers. It makes all the sense in the world.

It’s going to be Reigns though, right?

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
