7 Original Documentaries That Should Air On WWE Network

5. The Stories Of Amateur Wrestlers That Made It In WWE

Kurt Angle. Brock Lesnar. Shelton Benjamin. Charlie Haas. Jack Swagger. Dolph Ziggler. These are just some of the guys that used amateur wrestling to open the door to get into WWE within the last 20 years. All of them were recruited by Jim Ross and Gerald Brisco, both of whom could offer a lot of insight into what they were looking for when they signed these guys. There were other amateur wrestlers that were in WWE too. A lot of WWE fans have no idea about amateur or freestyle wrestling aside from watching it once every four years in the Olympics. Even then, people may see that and have no idea how the scoring works or why anybody would want to do it at a competitive level. If WWE did a documentary feature about how amateur wrestlers are good fits in WWE then it could lead to more WWE fans checking out that sport too. Angle didn't wrestle in the indies before WWE. He went there after he couldn't find a job he liked after he won the Olympic gold medal. It turned out that he was a perfect fit. Lesnar and Benjamin were standout wrestlers at the University of Minnesota and Ross recently revealed that Lesnar told WWE he'd sign only if they brought Benjamin in too. Smart move. Haas wrestled at Seton Hall, Swagger at Oklahoma and Ziggler at Kent State. All of them have interesting stories about how they got to WWE, how they transitioned from one form of wrestling to the WWE style and if they were given the chance to tell their story the chances are good that the audience would find it compelling to watch.
