7 Other 'Best Of' Wrestling Series You Need To See

You can never beat your first time, and when it comes to Booker T, Chris Benoit and multi-match series this is most definitely true. The two men faced off in a Best of Seven Series in World Championship Wrestling, producing one of the finest rivalries in company history. The series went all the way to the final match (as these things always do), with Booker T prevailing to become #1 contender to Finlay's Television Championship.

This would actually turn out to be a Best of Eight, as Bret Hart of all people got involved in the seventh match leading to it ending in a way that either man wanted. Booker won the sudden death match before beating Finlay later that same night to win TV gold.

The first five matches of this series were great, with Benoit bringing his trademark intensity and the rise of Booker T gaining more and more momentum. The series may be romanticised somewhat almost 20 years later, but those five bouts stand up extremely well today.

The end of the series was flat, but this should not drag it down. In a company that was flagging to say the least, this series was the freshest breath of air possible.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
