Rob Van Dam was adored by the loyal faithful of ECW, where he held the World Television Championship for a record 700 days, but he had not had the chance to demonstrate his amazing ability on the grandest stage until his arrival in WWE.

While staying true to his ECW roots throughout the Invasion, RVD was booked as the only pure babyface in The Alliance and even had the opportunity to challenge Austin for the WWF Championship at No Mercy, in a triple threat match also involving Angle.

Although he was unsuccessful that night, Van Dam did pick up wins over Kane, The Undertaker, Chris Jericho, and The Rock in either singles or tag team competition, and defeated Jeff Hardy - twice - for the WWF Hardcore Championship.

He was undoubtedly the breakout star of The Alliance and he would go on to be an excellent upper mid-carder in WWE. He became a Triple Crown and Grand Slam Champion, and was named the best wrestler in the world by Pro Wrestling Illustrated in 2002.
