Put a microphone in Paul Heyman’s hand these days and he sells WWE pay-per-views.

That was also his job on the SmackDown before Survivor Series in 2001 when Vince McMahon gave him the artistic license to cut the most memorable shoot promo of all time.

Impassioned, honest, victimised; Heyman tore into Vince McMahon for going back on his father’s promise not to compete with other promotions, and for stealing ideas from ECW.

"Have you watched the television show lately? Vince McMahon has lost his mind! The man doesn't have it anymore! He's a has-been. His ideas are antiquated. His concepts are Draconian and Mick Foley was right because the WWF is imploding from within."

Sixteen years on, these words still summarise how some wrestling fans feel about the product. But, credit to Vince for giving Heyman this platform and taking his best punches.
