7 Reasons Donald Trump On WWE SmackDown Would Be A Huge Mistake

5. Going Off-Script

So now we can make the assumption that President Trump would actually show up on SmackDown in person if it were to happen. This now presents another challenge that could have serious blowback: his inability to stay on-message.

Again, regardless of your opinion of Trump, it’s widely accepted that he’s not known for staying on-script when it comes to appearances. That has led to ridicule from many, but it also is part of what endears him to his supporters – his unvarnished commentary is appealing to people.

But for purposes of this column, we’ll be blunt: If Trump were to show up on camera on a live episode of SmackDown and have to interact with other characters, there’s a fair chance he’ll go off-script. And while that might very well be what drives ratings, it also could be nail-biting for White House and WWE, which has to answer to sponsors.

Could POTUS make some wild claims about Wrestlemania IV and 23? Is it possible he veers into his campaign rhetoric? Will he launch into fact-free non-sequiturs, like when he claimed the Continental Army manned airports and conflated the Revolutionary War with the War of 1812 just last week?

Live TV presents challenges for even the most trained actors, but there is always the potential for disaster.
