7 Reasons Donald Trump On WWE SmackDown Would Be A Huge Mistake

4. Boycott?

Let’s face facts: President Trump is perhaps the most divisive well-known public figure in the United States.

If you support him, there’s a good chance you have been ostracized or yelled at during holiday meals. If you oppose him, the same is likely true. You’ve likely defriended/unfollowed people on social media as a result of your opinion of the American president.

The same could be true for some of the WWE wrestlers. While those like AJ Styles would likely be lined up to get an autograph and photo with the president (not to mention the McMahon family themselves), others like Sami Zayn have reason to avoid him. Roster members such as Renee Young, Sasha Banks and Xavier Woods previously expressed frustration at Trump's election. But could some wrestlers just refuse to take part in the show if Trump is featured on it?

It would be a bit of an extreme move, but the opportunity to stage a protest of sorts might be too great for anyone with very strongly held convictions. If you truly believe the president represents an existential threat to American democracy, then you might be tempted to take action in some way.

On a different note, is it possible fans could urge advertisers to boycott SmackDown if Trump appears on it? We saw fans spur action when WWE named a battle royal after Fabulous Moolah, prompting sponsor backlash and a hasty renaming of the event.

Stranger things have happened.
