Within a few years of making his professional debut (aged 18), Balor had set up an NWA offshoot in Ireland and was helping to train even less experienced wrestlers than himself. Clearly a quick learner, he was spotted and recruited by New Japan Pro Wrestling, staying there for eight years under the name of Prince Devitt and establishing himself as one of the most exciting cruiserweights in the company. He was rewarded for his loyalty and talent with three reigns as IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion. Having already excelled for years on a large stage, a transition to the WWE main roster should prove fairly easy for Balor, especially given his prior experience in an ultra-competitive environment.
