7 Reasons Kevin Owens Must Beat Goldberg At WWE Fastlane 2017
1. Kevin Owens Vs. Chris Jericho Deserves Top Championship Billing
When 2017 comes to a close and the end of year lists are compiled there is a good chance that the Festival of Friendship will rank high on many people's memories. It was a gloriously compiled ode to the career of Chris Jericho and the perfect way to end the JeriKO friendship. The inevitable Owens/Jericho match is going to be one of the most hotly anticipated bouts of the year, for sure.
The story simply deserves the Universal Championship to be a part of it. If Owens loses the title to Goldberg and goes on to beat Jericho for the United States Championship at WrestleMania 33, WWE would have simply shown that betraying your best friend can help your steal his title too. Without belittling the US Championship too much the Owens/Jericho feud is bigger than a secondary title.
Chris Jericho himself may well have foreshadowed all of this during the Festival of Friendship. Jericho guaranteed that Owens would come out of Fastlane with the championship, and it may well turn out that Jericho himself makes that happen. If Jericho can guarantee Owens leaves as champion that means Y2J will likely challenge for a major championship he has never held at the Show of Shows.
It makes sense. WWE gains so much more by having Kevin Owens beat Goldberg, compared to the grand total of nothing that it achieves by reversing that result.
