7 Reasons Kevin Owens Must Beat Goldberg At WWE Fastlane 2017
2. This Could Make Or Break Kevin Owens' Year
It seems a little early to be making such statements but WWE may well have booked themselves into a corner once again when it comes to Kevin Owens. KO's Universal Championship reign has been characterised by lucky defences and retaining the championship thanks to the help of others. Owens has been as ineffective a champion as one can remember and desperately needs some credibility back going into the rest of the year.
But we shouldn't even begin to get ahead of ourselves here as there is more chance of Braun Strowman beating Roman Reigns clean than there is of Kevin Owens hitting Goldberg with a Pop-Up Powerbomb and pinning him in the middle of the ring clean as a whistle. If Owens does win it will be through nefarious means, but that may well be enough. Owens simply needs this win more than Goldberg.
If Goldberg steamrolls Owens in under two minutes and walks away with the Universal Championship the WWE will have achieved absolutely nothing new. We know that Goldberg is intense, we know that Goldberg is domination personified and we know that Goldberg is a machine. If Owens can sneak out a win (via Lesnar if need be) then something will be achieved.
Owens mustn't become a mere fly on the windshield of the runaway car that is Bill Goldberg. WWE risks compromising one of their most important and consistent assets by sacrificing him to the tearaway vehicle.
