https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6hp4X-cVKs In 2010, Kevin Steen vs El Generico won Wrestling Observer's highly coveted Feud Of The Year award. The feud lasted a full year from when Steen turned on his then parter El Generico at ROH's Final Battle Pay-Per-View in December 2009, all the way to the same Pay-Per-View in December 2010. According to Colt Cabana and Steve Corino (who were involved in the feud) and Steen himself, everything about the story was put together by Steen and Generico. They had the idea, they wrote the story, they worked out the timing of the narrative, and they booked the individual matches. Jim Cornette, who was booking ROH at the time, didn't offer anything in terms of help with the story and in fact seemed put off by the whole idea. In the end though it was hugely successful, winning the Wrestling Observer's feud of the year and making household names of El Generico and Kevin Steen. Put simply, Steen knows wrestling. He is capable of building his own character, and of telling his own story. He won't have to rely on WWE Creative to tell him exactly what to do, and he will be able to embellish and perfect whatever he is given. And when the time comes where WWE Creative stop giving him stuff, he will be able to fend for himself. Kevin Steen is not only an incredible talent, but one who has everything it takes to become a major player in WWE for years to come.
