7 Reasons The 2016 Dusty Rhodes Classic Won't Be As Good As 2015

This time last year, the NXT tag division was doing pretty well for itself. Sure, a few of the teams may have been on there way out, but there was still plenty of teams around. As a result, only three duos came together from pre-NXT to make up the 16 teams last year, in the shape of Dawkins & Fulton, Kekoa & Wolfe and Samson & Knight.

Fast forward to 2016, and the first round is pretty much a doozy from start to finish. There are a total of five teams that include individuals who have next to no NXT presence prior to this tournament; Sabbatelli & Moss, Knight & Bogojevic, Lun & Bing, the Bollywood Boyz & Dorado & Ali.

When you add to this the teams thrown together specifically for the tournament or making their debut here, you get a whole lot of duos there to just make up the numbers. The field is far, far weaker this year as a result.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
