7 Reasons The 2016 Dusty Rhodes Classic Won't Be As Good As 2015

1. The Cruiserweight Classic Just Finished

After years of complaining that WWE didn't do enough tournaments it feels somewhat silly to complain about them doing too many, but that is exactly what I am going to do. The final of the Cruiserweight Classic was held at Full Sail University just a month ago, with the first round matches of the Dusty Classic taped in the same venue airing from October 5th.

The tournament overload isn't helped by the number of individuals who will have performed in both. 13 men taking part in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic also took part in the Cruiserweight Classic, including five complete teams (DIY, Gulak & Nese, Perkins & Ibushi, Dorado & Ali, Bollywood Boyz).

Rather than filling the tournament with men we've just seen compete in a Full Sail tournament, why not bring a few main roster duos down? The Vaudevillains and The Ascension aren't exactly tearing the top apart right now. Heck, bring the Splash Brothers!

I hope I'm wrong and the 2016 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic ends up being an all-time great. There are bright spots, whether it is the arrival of SAnitY, the continued smashing of the Authors of Pain or the 'shocking' arrival of Roderick Strong.

Right now however, I'm pretty pessimistic.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
