7 Reasons The Undertaker Shouldn't Sign A New WWE Contract

1. He Needs To Preserve His Legacy

If The Undertaker's health is the most bluntly rational reason for his retirement, the question of his legacy is perhaps the most romantic. Wrestling fans love to look back on the careers of their favourite superstars as little periods of perfection in the history of the business, but this isn't true of every influential career. Everybody has a particularly beloved band or artist who simply doesn't know when to let it lie, releasing album after disastrous album and diluting their once intoxicating legacy. The top stars of the wrestling industry work in much the same way. Ric Flair's emotional final match with HBK was undercut when he popped up in a TNA ring. Would we remember Rock and Austin so fondly if they'd stuck around to slug it out at the top of the card for a further decade? Undertaker is lucky in this regard; he experienced an unbelievable late peak during that run of WrestleMania classics, but is now clearly waning fast. If he considers himself satisfied with his career and calls it a day, his legacy will be cemented as one of the greatest ever. If not, there's no telling when he'll say goodbye - or just how past-it he'll be when he does so.
