7 Reasons Why Steve Austin Was A Bigger Star Than Hulk Hogan

7. Austin Left Us Wanting More

Steve Austin retired in 2003 when he was 39 years old. He's said on his podcast many times that he would have liked to wrestle another five years or so before retiring, but he had to call it a career due to all of his neck and knee injuries. For the past 11 years there have been rumors about Austin wrestling one more match. If you've seen him in movies or hosting reality TV shows you can see that he's kept in great shape. It's possible that he does have one more match in him, but a reason why he doesn't do it is he would have a tough time dealing with it if he had a really bad match. He has too much pride to risk it. Austin's also said that he would come back if it was the right match with the right person, but perhaps that's something he just says to keep us thinking it might happen. When you're a worker, that's what you always do. Maybe that's all it is when he says stuff like that. People can say he retired too soon, but that doesn't have to be a bad thing. His last match was a very entertaining battle with The Rock at WrestleMania 19 that provided some finality on their legendary feud. We don't have any memories of him stumbling around looking out of place like we do for so many legends. He's not wrestling in flea markets or bingo halls. He went out on the biggest stage of them all. The bottom line is (pun intended), he left us wanting more and that's something that should be commended.
