4. His 1999 Heel Turn Failed Because He Was So Well Liked
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=648AysjSdFs Sting spent the majority of his WCW career as a babyface. We never thought he would turn heel. When he did at the September 1999 Fall Brawl PPV it didn't really work. Hulk Hogan was back as the babyface in the red & yellow gear. Sting had World Title match against him that saw a ridiculous amount of interference with DDP, Bret Hart, Sid and Lex Luger involved. Luger was Sting's closest ally and he was the last one in there. It looked like Hogan thought Sting would work with him to get rid of Luger. Instead, Sting hit Hogan in the stomach with a baseball bat and then he hit him in the back too. The fans cheered while the announcers questioned Sting's actions. Sting put Hogan in the Scorpion Death Lock and the referee ruled that Hogan was out. Sting won the WCW World Title for the last time. The idea was that this was supposed to be a heel turn. Some fans reacted to it that way by pelting Sting with garbage, but most of them cheered. In the weeks that followed, they tried to push the idea of Sting as a heel. It just didn't work. People weren't receptive to it.
