7 Reasons WWE Is Failing To Engage (And 3 Ways To Solve It)

4. It's Too Boring

If you watch Raw and Smackdown live without the aid of a DVR to fast-forward through parts, you’re a better fan than this author. I can’t watch WWE cram a two-hour show into a three-hour Raw, filled with dull promos that go way too long, WWE-specific advertisements, endless replays of stuff we’ve already seen, squash matches and boring, go-nowhere plotlines.

How many times can we go to the well with Lesnar/Heyman interviews? How many times can Zayn and Owens fight (on Raw it lasted all of two minutes)? How many rollups of death do we have to endure to finish matches? How many squash matches?

Yet all those things happened this week, and they’re consistent every week. The formula doesn’t change, and when it’s compounded with weak storytelling and not enough stars rising to the occasion, you get a bland product for the most part.

None of this is to say it’s awful or terrible, but I haven’t seen a convincing argument that we’re witnessing a peak in WWE programming instead of a valley. How to turn it into a peak? Read on…
