7 Reasons WWE Might Cancel NXT
2. NXT Is No Longer Developmental
NXT is supposed to be WWE's developmental division. It is where the stars of tomorrow can be introduced to the WWE Universe for the first time, where they can learn their craft and evolve until they are ready to make the leap to the main roster and the bigger stage.
When the show evolved from gameshow unto a more traditional wrestling format, this developmental standing was clear for all to see. Seth Rollins, Big E., Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns and Neville all dipped their tentative toes into WWE's muddy waters in NXT, and all were better for it when they eventually came to the main roster.
Somewhere along the way, NXT stopped being WWE developmental and took on a life of its own. Whilst the show itself has been all the better for it, it has simply stopped preparing wrestlers for RAW and SmackDown. Many have gone to the main roster from NXT in recent months and succeeded, but these have pretty much just been those who starred on the independent scene beforehand (Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn etc).
Those who have come through the WWE system have largely flopped on the main roster. Tyler Breeze, Adam Rose, the Vaudevillains (although it may be too early to say for the Vaudies) have come to the main roster with NXT hype and immediately hit walls. The next folk to get promoted are also likely to be former indy stars who didn't really need any developmental time in the first place.
NXT is no longer WWE developmental, and as such it no longer fulfils its original purpose.
