7 Reasons WWE Might Cancel NXT

1. The 2016 WWE Brand Split

All of which brings us to the main reason why the writing on NXT's wall may be etched in a little deeper than it seems.

Unless you've been living under a rock under the sea under another rock, you'll know that World Wrestling Entertainment recently announced the return of the brand split. This means that Monday Night RAW and SmackDown are to be split in two, with two separate rosters. This is big news.

WWE currently has 62 wrestlers on its main roster, although this includes the inactive, the injured, the part-time and The Ascension. This might seem like a lot, but when you take into account that it means two separate creative entities and two separate live tours that need to compete with each other, it begins to seem a little stretched. The noise coming out of WWE is that this isn't going to be an 'A' show and a 'B' show deal either.

All of which means the current NXT roster is going to be raided in order to fill out the line-ups on RAW and SmackDown. Finn Balor, Samoa Joe, Shinsuke Nakamura, American Alpha, Asuka, Bayley and the rest are too valuable to WWE on the main roster to continue in what is essentially 'developmental'.

NXT has become synonymous with top quality wrestling, and this mass exodus of talent in order to keep the main ship afloat will be too much for the yellow brand to take.

Nobody wants to see TakeOver specials headlined by Mojo Rawley and Tino Sabbatelli, and unless WWE brings in a huge amount of outside talent this could very well be a reality. Maybe it is best for NXT to be laid to rest and a true developmental WWE Network show to take its place.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
