7 Reasons WWE Moving Smackdown Back To Thursdays Is Smart

5. Spoilers Don't Really Matter If The Shows Are Better

There's always been a perception from a group of fans that think Smackdown is significantly hurt because of the fact that spoilers for the show are available on the internet and because of that, less people are likely to watch it. There really is no proof of that because we don't know what percent of WWE fans actually read Smackdown spoilers. In addition to that, if you picked up the new Paul Heyman DVD you should pay attention to the part where he talks about how Smackdown was beating Raw in the ratings in late 2002. You know why? Because it was clearly the better of the two shows. Heyman did a fantastic job of booking Smackdown and then was removed because WWE wants Raw to be better. What kind of company would hurt its own show by removing a head writer that did great numbers? Bizarre. That run in 2002-03 was when Smackdown was at its best. The other year that it was significantly better than Raw was in 2009 thanks to guys like CM Punk, Jeff Hardy, Chris Jericho and Rey Mysterio among others. It became the wrestling show while Raw was trotting out celebrity guest hosts that were usually bad while Triple H, Randy Orton and John Cena dominated the main event scene like usual. Now that the brand extension we won't get another chance to see if Smackdown can truly be better than Raw, but a move to Thursday will hopefully mean that WWE tries to make Smackdown feel like a bigger deal. It's been proven in the past that if the shows are better the fans will tune in. It can happen again.
