7 Reasons WWE NXT Takeover II: Fatal 4-Way Was Worth $9.99
4. Renee Youngs Commentary
WWE has not had a regular female announcer in ages, certainly not in the past decade on one of its major programs. But there is no denying Renee Youngs talent as a pro wrestling announcer. Shes not going to be mistaken for Jim Ross, but shes also not going to be compared to Mike Adamle. Young has been a breath of fresh air in the commentary booth, providing a new perspective on things and helping to add depth to the discussions. While the guys at the desk might gloss over stuff and yell excitedly, Renee seems to have a composure that keeps things focused and relevant. She also can deliver a good zinger here and there. After Baron Corbin decimated hippie child and eco-warrior C.J. Parker, Renee quipped, Thats one less carbon footprint to worry about, then noted that he was just a pile of dreadlocks lying in the ring. If one of the male commentators said it, you might groan a little, but theres something about a woman just openly mocking a male competitor that adds something to the insult. Contrast her performance on the mic with Byron Saxton, whose heel persona (at least, thats what it seemed like it was supposed to be) was so bad that if his mic had cut out, it would have been an improvement. The forced heel from a guy who barely had a cup of coffee in the ring just doesnt work. Listening to the commentary at Fatal 4-Way, its obvious that Renee has the chops to eventually crack the commentary desk on one of the two main shows.
