7 Rules WWE Should Bring Back
2. Interference
Interference plagues professional wrestling matches now and it always has. The difference is how it was once perceived by the audience.
In current WWE programming, you can catch at least a half-dozen instances of outside interference in a match. Tag team partners decide to help themselves mid-match to support one of the competitors. Guest commentators inevitably involve themselves somehow. Managers cause distractions in front of the referee and generally have three strikes before they are banned from ringside.
Further back in WWE history, though, there was a much lower tolerance for interference. However, that wasn’t to say the rule remained unbroken. The stricter regulations weren’t simply to add a realistic edge to the bouts; they also provided openings for managers and competitors to draw heat from the audience. Superstars, such as Jimmy Hart, found ways to interfere in matches without being caught, which more often than not, fanned ongoing feuds.
In a WWE where superstars are allowed to distract rivals with their entrance packages mid-match and do so weekly, drawing more attention to this rule would help eliminate the redundancy of numerous run-ins and create a bigger pop when they do occur.
