Hulk Hogan was unquestionably the biggest name in WWE during his initial run in the company. From the time he won his first World Title in 1984 to leaving WWE in 1993, Hogan was the unquestioned face of Vince McMahon's organization. Hogan was the one that sold the most tickets and without him WWE could have been in a lot of trouble. Any time you're as successful as Hogan was you're going to have an ego. It happens to everybody. In Hogan's case, his ego might be bigger than everybody else just because that's the way he is. Maybe he has the right to have a big ego too. By the time the early 1990s arrived the fans were starting to get sick of him. Some fans were starting to boo him. It wasn't like it is today with John Cena, but it was noticeable once in a while. Hogan always had an interest in doing films. One of the biggest breaks in his career happened in 1982 in Rocky III when he was Thunderlips. He couldn't go off to film too many movies once he was WWE's top guy because he worked such a hectic schedule. Once he realized his wrestling career was struggling a bit he did Mr. Nanny, then the TV show Thunder in Paradise, then Santa With Muscles, 3 Ninjas and other films. Those were things he did while he was in WCW because he had a much easier schedule there. In the mid-2000s, his Hogan Knows Best reality show was also a big hit proving again that he had a lot of crossover appeal. The Hogan name is huge. Everybody knows who he is whether he's in wrestling or not.
