7 Stupidest Reasons WWE Refused To Push Superstars

2. Doesn't Eat Steak (Daniel Bryan)

No wrestler who doesn't eat meat could ever connect with the predominantly carnivorous masses, which is precisely why the likes of Batista and Daniel Bryan accomplished bot all, whilst the Moondogs and The Bushwhackers are celebrated today as amongst the industry's biggest needle-movers.

That's the reality in Vince McMahon's head, anyway. After Bryan impressed during his televised WWE debut, opposite World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho on the first episode of the original NXT, Y2J put in a good word to the boss about his rookie opponent. "He can get people behind him," said Jericho of Bryan's proclivity to work the crowd in his favour. An expression of complete perplexity passed over McMahon's face, before he barked back,"Yeh, but who doesn't eat steak?"

Word of the American Dragon's plant-based diet had already spread to the chairman, who simply could not conceive of the fans buying into a guy who didn't take fork to flesh. The 'evil vegan's card was marked from the off, and even when Bryan proved his boss emphatically wrong, his eventual megapush was still entirely begrudging.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
