7 Things You Should Know About WWE Royal Rumble 1992

4. It Was Hulk Hogan's Last Royal Rumble

As mentioned earlier, Hulk Hogan was in the complicated WWE Title picture with The Undertaker at the time. Going into the match, he was definitely a favorite to win the vacated title. Considering that Hogan wrestled into the mid-200s, it's actually surprising to think that his last Rumble match was way back in 1992. A year later he was a part timer in WWE and he was gone from the company by 1994. When he returned to WWE in 2002 it was February, so he missed it that year. Even though he wrestled post 2002, he wasn't in a Rumble match again. He was 38 years old at the time of this match, so he's only about a year older than John Cena is right now with Cena turning 38 later this year. It's really not that old. What was noticeable about the match was the crowd reaction to Hogan. He made it all the way to the final three with Sid and Flair. At the time, Sid was a babyface. Hogan battled with Flair, but Sid ended up dumping Hogan out. The crowd cheered. Were they cheering because a face like Sid did an elimination or were they cheering against Hogan? That led to Hogan being angry on the floor, so he grabbed Sid's arm and Flair dumped Sid out to win. Hogan basically acted like a heel there, but he was still booked like a face after that. It was a major shock that Hogan didn't win because we were so used to seeing him win. That loss set up the WrestleMania 8 main event match against Sid that was a stinker, but it was done to bring back Ultimate Warrior in a big way. With that, Hogan was done in Royal Rumble matches after winning it the previous two years.
