7 Things You Should Know About WWE Royal Rumble 1994

7. Bam Bam Bigelow Replaced Ludvig Borga Against Tatanka

Ludvig Borga was a prototypical early 1990s WWE foreign heel. He was booked as a dominant heel from the summer of 1993 and had a lot of momentum going into 1994. He was scheduled to face the babyface Tatanka at the 1994 Royal Rumble. There was even a graphic shown advertising the match.
However, in the build up to the match Borga suffered a serious ankle injury and he never appeared in WWE again. The Borga match against Tatanka would have made a lot of sense because it was Borga that ended Tatanka's undefeated streak three months prior to this. Due to Borga's injury, WWE subbed Bigelow in to face Tatanka. It was a very basic opening match that went about nine minutes with Tatanka getting the win. What's interesting about it is that if Borga was healthy he likely would have won rather easily while also getting a good push in the Rumble match. He was scheduled for a feud with main eventer Lex Luger too. Instead, he had that bad ankle injury and was never brought back again. It's not like Borga was a good performer, though, so most people didn't really miss him when he was gone.
