7 Things You Should Know About WWE Royal Rumble 1994
6. Three Title Matches On Undercard With No Title Changes
It took WWE about eight years to figure out the right format for the Rumble PPV, but they got it right at this show. They had four matches leading up to the Rumble match and three of those matches were title matches. Obviously the Rumble match is the main course on the show. However, it's important to have a good undercard. The tag team title match saw The Quebecers take on the brother duo of Bret and Owen Hart. It was the start of a brilliant angle that will be covered a bit more on the next page. Razor Ramon's IC Title win over IRS wasn't a great match. It was pretty boring, but they had a good angle for the finish. Shawn Michaels came out with his version of the IC Title, hit Razor and IRS won the title briefly. Another ref came down, the match got restarted and Razor won about one minute later. It set up the Razor/Shawn ladder match at WrestleMania 10, so at least it was a positive in that sense. Putting a WWE Title match on at the Royal Rumble became a regular thing by this point. It was Yokozuna defending the WWE Title against The Undertaker. That match was really fresh and was a big deal, so it helped strengthen the undercard. Several of the guys that worked in undercard matches were also part of the Rumble match. That's because the roster was so thin in terms of star power. That sort of thing doesn't happen as much in WWE these days.
