7 Things You Should Know About WWE Royal Rumble 1998

4. Mick Foley's Three Faces Of Foley Made The Rumble Match Fun

Mick Foley made history during the Rumble match by entering the fray three different times. He had three gimmicks that everybody knew. Plus, the roster was pretty thin at the time, so they needed some bodies. It turned into a fun idea that really worked. Cactus Jack drew the #1 slot against Chainsaw Charlie, who was the legendary Terry Funk. Their friendship was mentioned, but they didn't care. They ended up bringing chairs into the match, which had never been done in a Rumble before. They did some vicious chair shots to eachother. Those would be banned today. Jack lasted 9:41 and was eliminated by Charlie, which was fitting after their brutal beginning. The 16th entrant was Mankind, which was the most well known gimmick of Foley that he had been using for the majority of the previous two years. In what was a smart booking move, Mankind eliminated Charlie. Nice payback! Mankind's run didn't last too long because he was out in 2:40 thanks to a hiptoss from Goldust. Dude Love was the third face of Foley and also the 28th entrant. He was more of the fun loving persona of Foley that was there to have a good time. He lasted all the way to the final four in a time of 7:53 when Faarooq decided to eliminate Mr. Love. It was a Rumble match that didn't have too many surprises, but the three Faces of Foley made it fun to watch.
