7 Things You Should Know About WWE Royal Rumble 1998

5. The Rock's Feud With Ken Shamrock Was Underrated

Some guys just have great chemistry together. The Rock and Ken Shamrock were like. They were completely different characters with The Rock as an outgoing cocky guy that always found a way to cheat and Shamrock was a legitimate tough guy that was able to back up the claim that he was the baddest man on the planet. The Rock went into the match as the Intercontinental Champion. He was the heel while Shamrock just couldn't wait to get his hands on him. They had a very competitive match where Rock was in control for much of it, Shamrock made the comeback and then the Nation of Domination interfered on Rock's behalf. It was a very creative finish too. Rock used brass knuckles to knock Shamrock out and then he put them in the front of Shamrock's tights. Shamrock was able to recover, he hit a belly to belly suplex and then covered to win the IC Title. Everybody was happy. However, The Rock told the ref that Shamrock nailed with the brass knuckles. The ref checked, found them and disqualified Shamrock. That finish was absolutely brilliant. It made Rock look like such a crafty heel. Any time we can get a finish like that where it comes off as really fresh it should be applauded. It may have been done elsewhere in wrestling, but it was rare to see that kind of thing in WWE.
