7 Things We Learned From ESPN's WWE Special "Behind The Curtain"
2. Adam Rose Has A Lot Worth Fighting For
The story of Ray Leppan is what people will remember most. He had a long journey to get from WWE because he is from South Africa. It's the family stuff that really was captivating. His oldest son is named Maverick and he had a birth defect. His abdomen was not in the right place. He can't eat food normally. They have to insert it through a tube in his stomach. If you saw the child walking down the street he looks like everybody else. Then you see him with his shirt off and it breaks your heart to see his stomach like that. No child should have to deal with something like that. When WWE told him was that the Leo Kruger character wasn't going to work, so he had to think of something else. He brainstormed to try to figure something out. That's where Adam Rose came from. They got the gimmick loosely from the Russell Brand comedy character, so they said Rose was this guy that loved to party and always had people with him, which they called the Party Posse. Following his first performance as Rose, he was greeted with a standing ovation by his peers backstage. He was given hugs by Joey Mercury, Sami Zayn, Bill DeMott and others. People were so happy for him because they knew how hard he worked to get there. Triple H congratulated while mentioning that the fans chanted "this is awesome" for it. If you watch NXT then you know the Rose character wasn't there for very long. They called him up to the main roster once he figured out the gimmick because he was 35 years old and had been in developmental for about five years. They liked his in-ring work a lot. Once he had the gimmick, no more developmental for him. Let's be honest here, the Adam Rose character is very average. He really didn't work out as a face, so they turned him heel. Rose went on Twitter after the show to ask people if they wanted Leo Kruger to come back because maybe he's sick of the Rose gimmick. As for his family, they are doing well. He and his wife had another son named Levi. With Adam's job secure, they are in a good place. Good luck to Ray Leppan in his future in WWE. It's easy to root for him to do well.
