7 Things We Learned From WWE Untold: Shane McMahon & Kurt Angle
2. Mike Chioda Was A Hidden Hero
If Mike Chioda hadn't been so on the ball at King Of The Ring 2001, one or both of Kurt and Shane might've broken their necks. Cast a glance at the bottom portion of the attached pic to see the experienced ref stabilising that plywood board Angle is standing on. That was an essential piece of on-the-fly officiating.
Chioda spotted the board wobbling off the ropes when Kurt stood on top of it, and that only worsened when he ducked to pick up Shane for an Angle Slam. Right before the wood slipped from the top strand, Mike stood with his back to the camera shot and slyly held the board in place. Then, when both workers were falling backwards, he jumped back to react.
It was obvious to some watching at home, but Mike didn't care 'cause he knew he was probably saving Angle and McMahon from disaster.
Chioda was also instrumental in communicating with the Gorilla Position about what do to if something did go wrong. Backstage, Bruce Prichard and Vince McMahon himself were in a panic about some of the bumps and stunts that were going on.
