7 Things We Learned From WWE's CWC Bracketology Show
2. Cruiserweight Championship
The original announcement of the CWC naturally sparked
rumours that we could soon be seeing the Cruiserweight Championship itself return to
WWE programming—a belt that hasn’t been seen since Hornswoggle, of all people,
was stripped of the belt back in 2007.
Admittedly, many of these rumours have been little more than hearsay, but some of the verbiage used by Mauro Ranallo on the Bracketology show did seem to suggest that these rumours may be truer than some first thought.
Ranallo specifically used the phrase “CWC Championship” at one point, which does seem to suggest, you know, the presence of an actual title belt.
That being said, Ranallo has noted in the past that the winner of the tournament would receive a Cruiserweight Trophy, so perhaps this is the accolade he was in fact referring to on Wednesday night.
Then again, there’s also the small matter of an imminent brand split to factor into the equation—something that would certainly benefit from the revival of a Cruiserweight title.
