7 Things WWE Killed Forever At Hell In A Cell 2019
3. The Fiend
If proof that WWE are sh*t-scared of going all-in on anyone who isn’t Ronda Rousey, Brock Lesnar, or whoever they’ve decided ‘The Guy’ is at the time was needed, here it is. After months of graft, after all the effort put into revitalising Bray Wyatt’s dying career, WWE brought The Fiend crumbling down at Hell in a Cell 2019, incinerating his character throughout the course of one of their worst modern main events.
Wyatt’s murder clown persona fell in spectacular fashion. His bout with Seth Rollins started off well enough and the no-sell spots worked the first few times, but quickly ran out of steam. That his horror movie neck-snap spot exists is ridiculous in itself; that it isn’t a finisher is even more ridiculous. That aside, there wasn’t anything particularly threatening about his work, either, and the longer the bout went on, the less imposing this supposed supervillain became.
There was no need for Rollins to regain the Universal Title at HIAC as while the argument that The Fiend doesn’t need the big red belt once had merit, he needed to crush ‘The Beastslayer’ the moment this bout was put together. Blame WWE for booking themselves into a corner here. They couldn’t resist throwing this hot new character into the title hunt. When they couldn’t back out, they booked Wyatt into oblivion.
