7 Things You Should Know About WWE Royal Rumble 2000

6. Chris Jericho Solidified Himself As The Intercontinental Champion

WWE did something stupid in early 2000 when they had a Jericho/Chyna match with a double pinfall that meant they were co-IC Champions. It's not something that WWE does often, which is great because it's ridiculous. Either pick one of them or vacate the title. The co-champs thing is dumb. They probably know that now. This was Jericho's first Rumble PPV since he started in WWE about five months before this. He started out as a heel, but the fans were cheering him too much. He ended up becoming a babyface and instead of being a rival with Chyna, he had respect for her. In his second book, he talked about how difficult it was working with Chyna and how he had heat with Triple H (her boyfriend at the time) for a lot of the things that happened, so it was a tough time for Jericho. During the Rumble, Jericho won an eight minute match with Chyna and Hardcore Holly, who was just thrown into it because they had done Jericho vs. Chyna too many times by that point. Jericho even won the with the Lionsault, which he almost never won with in later years. It was a good booking decision because it helped Jericho's status as a solid midcard act.
