7 Things You Should Know About WWE Royal Rumble 2000

5. The Hardys Won A Great Tables Match Against The Dudleys

The WWE tag team division was really starting to take off in late 1999 thanks to the Hardy Boyz having an epic ladder match with Edge & Christian at the October No Mercy show. It was the first time WWE had ever done something like that before. They wisely followed that up with this tag team tables match at the Royal Rumble where the Hardys faced the Dudleys, who were pretty new in WWE at the time. A Tables Match was very new at the time, but it fit in perfectly with WWE's "Attitude" image because it promised a violent match. We also knew that Jeff Hardy was a daredevil and prior to this we hadn't seen anything that crazy. They incorporated some chairs into the match too, so it led to some other memorable spots as well. There was a fantastic ending to the match. They fought over by the balcony area where Jeff hit a low blow and chairshot on Bubba, who went crashing through the tables underneath. Matt managed to weaken D'Von enough to put him on a table and then Jeff jumped off the balcony with a Swanton Bomb to put him through the table. It drew a massive pop because we had never seen that before. That ending spot by Jeff was incredible and showed that he was willing to do anything to win a match. We didn't know it at the time, but things would only get better for the tag team division from there. These teams really added new life to the tag team division. This great Tables Match may not be remembered as much as the TLC matches, but it was still really good for the time given.
