Randy Savage's death in 2011 shocked the wrestling world and again raised questions about why the Macho Man decided to leave the WWE for WCW in 1994. The reasons for Savage's leaving and apparent blacklisting were never fully explored, leading to wild rumour and inappropriate innuendo. The real reason for Savage's leaving the company was that he felt as though he could still produce at a main event level, whereas Vince thought that Savage's talents would be best served behind the announce desk and as an ambassador for the company, promoting it in interviews and making charitable appearances. WWE were starting their youth movement and the over 40-year-old Savage was deemed to be past it. Randy obviously disagreed and so he jumped to WCW when his contract was up. Although Vince wished him well on the air during an episode of Raw, there was bad blood over the move. Vince felt betrayed by Savage. He wanted him to become the Babe Ruth of the WWE. Savage still harboured dreams of headlining and, seeing how ageing cast-offs like Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair were reliving their glory days, felt as though WCW was the right move for him (which it was). Savage worked on top of the card in WCW for many years, having great matches against the likes of Flair, Diamond Dallas Page. Vince responded with the truly risible Billionaire Ted skits, featuring the balding, geriatric 'Nacho Man'. Thankfully, the late, great Macho Man is now in the WWE Hall of Fame. It wasn't complete without him.
