7 Times Wrestling Promotions Turned Lemons Into Lemonade
4. AEW Blood And Guts Postponed Due To Ban On Live Crowds, An Entertaining Compromise Is Created
One of the first major casualties in wrestling due to the current pandemic was AEW's planned Blood and Guts match, a WarGames style offering that was scheduled to take place the same week that the ban on live crowds came into play.
Due to the ban, AEW opted not to go ahead with it. The match was originally planned to be the Inner Circle vs. Matt Hardy and The Elite (Adam Page, Cody, Kenny Omega and Matt Jackson). It will come as a surprise if this bout with the original line up goes ahead in the future due to the direction all the characters involved have taken.
Although Blood and Guts was scheduled to take place in March, a few months later from its ashes arose a never before seen concept, featuring everyone originally planned to be a part of that match except Cody, who was replaced with Nick Jackson: The Stadium Stampede. A never before seen concept which saw the teams wrestle in a ring within a baseball stadium, mixing live action with the burgeoning concept of cinematic matches. Hilarity ensued, including Page arriving to the fray late on the back of a horse and mascots being dropped with the Judas Effect.
Although the Stadium Stampede was far from what Blood and Guts would have been, with comedy and fun in place of violence and wrestling it was a much welcomed alternative in a time of unrest and uncertainty in the world, offering the escape from reality that wrestling should be.
