7 Times WWE Actually Did Something Classy

7. When Stardust Painted His Face Like Bowie

The first entry on the list is also the most recent. On the January 11th episode of Raw, WWE actually paid a legitimately classy tribute to the late music icon, even though they really had no need to. Bowie's sudden death shocked the world and transformed Facebook feeds everywhere into Ziggy Stardust tribute pages as fans mourned the loss of one the greatest musical innovators of all-time. During Raw, Cody Rhodes€™ face paint stuck out for any fans of the music legend. There was a single bolt across his face, inspired by the Bowie album Aladdin Sane. The paint was noticeable for the fact that it broke Rhodes away from his character and gave a brief acknowledgement to Bowie's passing at a time when lots of people were still in shock. It was a subtle gesture and WWE gained nothing from it. It was simply an opportunity for talent and fans to join in mourning together, without exploitation, and for a fan on the roster to pay his respects. It was without a doubt an uncharacteristic piece of class from an organisation that actively tries to oppose subtlety with every passing second.
