7 Times WWE Missed Opportunities With Sasha Banks
6. Her Main Roster Debut
Remember the ‘We Want Sasha’ chants?
When Stephanie McMahon announced the Diva’s Revolution on an episode of Raw in 2015, the Atlanta crowd erupted. Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair made their main roster debut as the crowd cheered for the next stage in women’s wrestling – and a new opponent for Team Bella that wasn't Paige.
Despite not wearing the belt to the ring, Banks was then the NXT Women’s Champion and riding a wave of momentum. Fans chanted for her during other wrestlers' matches, eager to see the same level of stardom from The Boss that NXT was showcasing every week. A champion vs. champion bout between Banks and longest reigning Divas Champion Nikki Bella would have been the perfect way to accentuate her debut whilst appeasing the fans and developing a red hot rivalry. Instead Sasha, Becky and Charlotte were forced into separate factions, made to compete in tag team matches that seemed pointless.
It highlighted the typical WWE formula of all spectacle but no narrative as there was no real story developing between the three teams. Instead they stalled, waiting for Nikki Bella to surpass AJ Lee's record breaking title run.
