7 Unanswered Questions With WWE's Upcoming Draft
1. Where Do NXT, NXT UK And 205 Live Factor In?
According to the aforementioned preliminary draft pools, the only Superstars eligible to be drafted this year are everyone that is already on Raw and SmackDown. The sole exceptions are Street Profits (who have been appearing on Raw in a non-wrestling capacity in recent months) and 205 Live stars Humberto Carrillo, Drew Gulak and Akira Tozawa.
It's interesting to note that the rest of the Cruiserweight division is absent from the list, which would seem to mean that the division will indeed be merged with NXT soon enough as has been rumored recently. Those three wrestlers will apparently be regulars on the main roster going forward, but nothing has been said about whether Raw and SmackDown will afforded any picks from NXT (as was the case in 2016).
Matt Riddle, Johnny Gargano and Velveteen Dream are all names to watch out for, as any one of them could realistically be called up in the Draft. It's possible they're kept surprises, but it'd be nice to know in advance whether brands outside of Raw and SmackDown will be involved (as many believe they should be).
Furthermore, this would be as perfect of a time as any for competitors from NXT UK who have been main roster-ready for months, such as Pete Dunne and Rhea Ripley, to be scooped up by SmackDown or Raw.
Despite the infinite amount of possibilities, WWE is bound to stick with the status quo and not get creative with other brands potentially playing a part in this Draft.
