Rusev may be in no man's land today, but a few years ago he was on the cusp of being a genuine WWE headliner. All the Bulgarian needed was a little help ascending the ladder, and (yep, you guessed it), John Cena was the man to give him a foot hold.

Going into Fastlane 2015, the expectation was for Cena to beat Rusev and become United States Champion. Not only did that not happen, the much-derided 'Superman' feel to Cena's character was also chipped away by a strong submission victory for Rusev. This was a platform on which WWE could build with their new heel sensation.

Rusev as a main eventer wouldn't pan out in the long run, but Cena did everything in his power to make the man look like a killer. It's a shame more people will remember the WrestleMania 31 win for Cena rather than this favour, because it's the better match.
