4. Cody Won’t Wait Long

Opening with a strong segment is certainly nothing new for WWE shows. That's something the company tries to do 90% of the time, and they got it spot on with SmackDown. An angry Cody Rhodes marched out and called Kevin Owens to the ring. There was no messing about; Rhodes wanted KO to answer for putting Randy Orton in the hospital with a piledriver on last week's edition.

GM Nick Aldis came out instead to say that Owens wouldn't be there until officials figured everything out internally. That didn't satisfy Cody. The reigning WWE Champ said he'd put the ball in Nick's court, but that he wouldn't be willing to wait very long. Regular viewers may have spotted the clear parallels between this and the segment involving Orton and Triple H a while back. Parallels in a good way.

Both babyfaces shed their smiles to get tough, which sells Kev as a dangerous loose cannon. Also, not so smiley and chatty Cody is awesome on the mic. He's still as eloquent as ever, but has more of a pointed spike to his words. If this is all reheating back up towards another Rhodes vs. Owens match (which it should be), then even better.

WWE did announce later in the night that they’ll have a promo face to face next week. That's when the final few pieces for Saturday Night's Main Event will be put in place. Survivor Series could come a little too soon, 'cause it'd be wise to let this one breathe a bit longer. Who knows what Cody will be doing on that PLE, if anything?
